Christiaan Teeuwsen has earned an outstanding reputation as a concert organist, teacher, and pedagogue, who is able to weave together a wealth of performance practice insights with a dynamic and fresh artistry.
A native of St. Catharines Ontario, Canada, Christiaan Teeuwsen received a Master of Fine Arts (1983), and Doctor of Musical Arts (1994) at the University of Iowa, completing studies with Dr. Delores Bruch and Dr. Delbert Disselhorst.
While at The University of Iowa he was twice a recipient of the Rahn Organ Scholarship and also won first prize scholarships from the Canada Council for Performers in Classical music.
Christiaan Teeuwsen also received the Solo Diploma (1984) in Organ Performance from the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam. During studies in The Netherlands and Germany he was assistant organist to Klaas Bolt at the Grote of Sint Bavo Kerk in Haarlem (1983-85). During his tenure in Europe Christiaan Teeuwsen studied with Harold Vogel at the North German Organ Academy and Harpsichord with Kees Rosenhart in Haarlem, The Netherlands.
Mr. Teewusen is currently Associate Professor of Music (Organ and Choral department) at Redeemer University in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada, and Director of Music at MacNab St. Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
He is very active as concert artist and clinician throughout North America and Europe. He makes his début on the Naxos label with a CD featuring the works of the great German organist and composer Georg Böhm (1661–1733).
